Oleksandr Babachenko has made significant contributions to the theoretical understanding of how the structural state of ferrite-pearlite steels, used in solid-rolled railway wheels and wheel bands, affects their mechanical and operational properties. His research primarily focuses on fracture mechanics parameters, including crack propagation resistance under static and cyclic loading. Dedicated to developing innovative technological solutions in metallurgy, his work has substantial practical applications aimed at enhancing the reliability and longevity of metal products, particularly for railway transport.

Oleksandr Babachenko is also a leader and active participant in numerous industrial and scientific projects that study the influence of the structural state and properties of steel products on their operational reliability. The author of over 100 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals, 1 book, and 9 chapters in collective monographs. He has also served as an editor and guest editor for several scientific journals.

Serhii Bobyr

Dr.Sci., Researcher at Angstrom Laboratory, Uppsala University, Sweden

Serhii Bobyr is a Leading Researcher in Metal Physics and Materials Science with rich on-hands experience in academic and commercial projects participation and management with several developments patented and implemented in industrial enterprises. M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (1984) graduated from the Dnipropetrovs’k State University, PhD(1990) and D.Sc. (2011) in Material Science. Since 2005 he has been a Senior Researcher in the Iron and Steel Institute of Z. I. Nekrasov National Academy of Science of Ukraine, Dnipro. In 2022–2023 he worked as a Leading Researcher at КТН – Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. S. V. Bobyr actively contributes to the development of wear-resistant steels and alloys, as well as the optimization of their heat treatment processes.

He has conducted extensive research and technological work at over 15 enterprises, showcasing his innovative approach and dedication to advancing the field. He is the author of more than 160 scientific works including 3 collective foreign monographs and 1 educational manual in co-authorship, 21 patents, devoted to various issues of metallurgy and the physics of metals, primarily phase transformations, and problems of the stability of alloys in difficult conditions. Since 2021, he has been a permanent expert of the “Material Science & Engineering International Journal”. In 2022, he received a grant from the Foundation for Advanced Research of Sweden “Development of the new diffusion solutions in metals and alloys”. In 2023, he received a grant from the Foundation for Applied Thermodynamics of Sweden “Development of statistical thermodynamics model for calculating hydrogen and carbon diffusion parameters in metals and alloys with the creation of their database”. Winner of the All-Ukrainian Inventors’ Contest “Invention of the Year” in 2009 and 2015, and recipient of the G.V. Kurdyumov Prize from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2015.

Parthiban Ramasamy

Dr.-Ing., Erich Schmid Institute of Materials Science of the Austrian Academy of the Sciences, Austria

Dr. Parthiban Ramasamy received his M. Tech. in Metallurgy and Materials Science Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. He is a Senior Scientist at the Erich Schmid Institute of Materials Science of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 international peer-reviewed journals. His research interests are amorphous soft magnetic materials, bio-degradable materials, additive manufacturing of soft magnetic materials, and lightweight materials for aerospace applications.
