National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science, and Frantsevich Materials Research Society regularly organize a conference on the materials science of refractory compounds and materials.

The forum is named in honor of the distinguished scientist Grigory V. Samsonov, a pioneer in the field of advanced refractory carbides, nitrides, borides, and silicides. His fundamental research of chemical bonding of refractory compounds provided the theoretical foundation for engineering the composite materials with tailored properties. Furthermore, Professor Samsonov’s extensive studies in the physical chemistry of refractory compounds paved the way for the industrial-scale production and application of nearly 500 distinct substances.

Refractory materials operate under extreme conditions such as ultra-high temperatures, and pressures, aggressive media and are widely used in many industrial fields. This conference serves as a platform for discussing the recent breakthroughs in both the fundamental understanding and the practical application of refractory materials.
